MCD gets Gold SKOCH Award 2025 for waste management

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE / Dehradun

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) received the Gold SKOCH Award 2025 for its urban governance and civic management initiatives. According to officials, the recognition was given for key projects carried out in the city during the past year, particularly those related to reclaiming public land and improving solid waste management systems.

One of the initiatives involved the removal of encroachments from public land at several locations and converting these spaces into parks and green areas. Officials said that the effort helped improve the city’s appearance while creating additional public spaces for residents. The second initiative focused on strengthening sanitation monitoring through the establishment of an Integrated Command and Control Centre for waste management operations. Officials said that the system has helped improve coordination between sanitation teams and enabled better tracking of field-level activities across wards.

Dehradun mayor Saurabh Thapliyal said that the recognition reflects the work carried out by the corporation in recent months to improve cleanliness and civic facilities in the city. He said that similar initiatives will continue in the coming period. Officials added that the projects were implemented as part of broader efforts to improve service delivery and urban infrastructure in the state capital. Technology-based monitoring is gradually being expanded to strengthen sanitation response and improve accountability, they said.
