Dehradun mayor Saurabh Thapliyal launched a major street light installation drive of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) to improve lighting infrastructure and public safety in the city.
Thapliyal inaugurated new street light poles at the MCD premises and said that around 4,000 modern street light poles will be installed in the 100 wards under the initiative.
He stated that the project is intended to address complaints related to poorly lit roads, dark stretches and inadequate lighting in residential areas. Several localities in the city have been facing issues due to damaged or insufficient street lights, especially during the monsoon and late evening hours.
The mayor further said that the MCD is working towards improving basic civic infrastructure and making the city safer and more convenient for residents. He said that better street lighting would help improve visibility on roads and provide relief to commuters, pedestrians and residents.
He said that the new poles and lighting systems will be installed in phases across all wards. Areas with frequent complaints and poor lighting conditions are likely to be prioritised during the initial phase of the work. The mayor also directed the officials to complete the installation work within the set timeline and ensure quality standards are maintained during execution.
