In line with the Swachhata Hi Seva campaign launched by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has initiated a comprehensive cleaning drive targeting 34 black spots across the city. These black spots, designated as cleanliness target units, are being cleaned thoroughly on a daily basis as part of the fortnight-long campaign. The officials said that the MCD has also taken proactive steps to prevent further littering in these areas by planting flowers, trees and placing decorative pots.

A sanitation worker has also been assigned to each location for regular monitoring. Besides this, the MCD has planned 46 awareness programmes to educate the public out of which 26 have already been completed. These awareness initiatives include street plays, small rallies and public engagement sessions with local representatives. Jingles and banners are also being used to promote cleanliness. These activities have been uploaded to the government’s portal for transparency.

The campaign has also extended to sewage treatment plants and two cow shelters managed by the corporation, as per the officials. They informed that the municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar has been personally overseeing the operations, with eight senior officers deployed in the field to ensure effective execution. According to assistant municipal commissioner and campaign nodal officer SP Joshi, all activities will be completed by October 1, with the closing ceremony scheduled for October 2 on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
