MCD now to approach MoHUA on March to seek relaxation in forthcoming field inspection

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has decided to approach the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) on March seeking relaxation in the forthcoming field inspection for Swachh Survekshan 2021 due to the chaos created by ongoing construction work under the Dehradun Smart City Limited (DSCL).

Earlier, the officials have stated that the corporation would write to MoHUA in February if DSCL will fail to finish their construction work by January 31. However, the construction work under the smart city project is still under process across the city but MCD has not approached the ministry so far. Referring to this, the chief municipal health officer, Dr Kailash Joshi stated that the State Government has already instructed DSCL to complete all the ongoing construction projects in the city by the end of this month. “Though we are hopeful that DSCL will finish their construction work by February 28 as per the instructions, we will have to approach MoHUA if they fail to do so,” said Joshi. He stated that the chaos created due to construction work in public areas can adversely affect the position of Dehradun city in Swachh Survekshan despite several initiatives taken by MCD this year. Due to which, the corporation will try to make the ministry aware of the issue in order to get some relaxation during field inspection the next month,” said Joshi. It is pertinent to mention here that Dehradun got 124th position in the Swachh Survekshan last year and the first position in Uttarakhand but this year, MCD is trying the city to get to the position among the top 100 cleanest city of India.
