The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) organised an awareness programme on Thursday within its premises as part of the Clean Air Week under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP). Dehradun mayor Saurabh Thapliyal and municipal commissioner Namami Bansal jointly presided over the event, which was attended by ward councillors, municipal staff and members of self-help groups.

The programme began with the launch of a short film highlighting the corporation’s initiatives under the NCAP. The mayor appealed to residents to contribute towards making Dehradun pollution-free, while the commissioner honoured winners of painting and essay competitions held in schools. Doons University professor Vijay Sridhar also addressed the gathering on the causes, effects and solutions of air pollution.

Neeraj Bhatia from Waste Warrior Institute also explained the process and significance of waste management. The commissioner also presented details of the corporation’s Green Policy and urged citizens to adopt practices that help reduce air pollution, assuring support from the corporation in these efforts.

The commissioner also distributed cloth bags to participants. Bansal said that MCD has been working regularly to promote collective responsibility for clean air in the city and appealed to them to avoid the use of plastic bags.
