The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) chief municipal health officer Dr Anand Shukla said on Friday that none of the more than 110 bulk waste generators (BWGs) identified by it has currently registered on the designated portal despite notices being issued to them, prompting the civic body to consider stricter action. Shukla said that two companies had registered earlier, but there was currently no active registration on the portal. The identified establishments will now have to complete the registration process, he said. “These are not small generators but large ones,” Shukla said, adding that the civic body and the district administration would have to take stricter steps to ensure compliance.
Shukla said that the civic body had not taken strict action earlier as officials were focused on waterlogging and other monsoon-related issues. With the monsoon ending, the corporation will now examine the matter more closely and step up enforcement, he said. The civic body is also tightening supervision of sanitation supervisors and inspectors. Shukla said that routine transfers had been carried out, with supervisors who had remained posted in the same ward for a long period shifted to other wards. Supervisors have also been warned to ensure proper cleanliness and address lapses in sanitation work.
With the monsoon ending, sanitation staff have been directed to clear grass and other vegetation growing along roads and footpaths and remove encroachments caused by overgrowth. “Negligence in any form will not be tolerated,” Shukla said. He said that separate cleaning orders had been issued for the area around Maharana Pratap Stadium, where garbage and overgrown grass had accumulated. Sanitation staff have been directed to remove the vegetation and clear the garbage from the area. The corporation is now expected to focus on ensuring compliance by bulk waste generators while also strengthening routine sanitation monitoring across city wards.
