MCD seeks approval for seven chainsaws ahead of monsoon

The Dehradun municipal commissioner Alok Kumar Pandey on Monday said that the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has approached the State government seeking equipment to strengthen its response to fallen trees and branches during the monsoon season.
Pandey said that the MCD has sought approval for the purchase of seven electric chainsaws which would help its teams carry out tree pruning and remove fallen branches swiftly during emergencies, especially during the monsoon. At present, the MCD does not have even a single chainsaw for tree cutting and emergency operations. The corporation also lacks dedicated gardeners for the upkeep and maintenance of plantations, Pandey said.
The municipal commissioner said that heavy rainfall and strong winds often result in trees or branches falling on roads, disrupting traffic movement and creating safety hazards. At present, the corporation has to depend on external assistance for cutting and removing fallen trees “With the availability of electric chainsaws, MCD teams will be able to respond quickly and clear roads in a timely manner,” he said.
The proposal comes as Dehradun prepares for the monsoon season, when incidents of trees and branches falling tend to increase. Pandey added that the proposed equipment would not only improve the maintenance of urban greenery but also strengthen the corporation’s ability to deal with emergencies during the monsoon. The proposal has been sent to the State administration for approval and further action, he added.
