The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has set up a disaster control room in its premises with the onset of pre monsoon rains. Several roads and drains were found to be flooded with the first pre monsoon rain on Wednesday. Though the situation was not severe, it certainly displayed the poor level of preparation of the corporation.
As per the officials, the disaster control room received only two complaints regarding waterlogging on the road in the Chandrabani and Jogiwala areas after the rain. They said that the control room will be available 24 hours a day to address the issue of citizens. The corporation has also purchased important safety gear for sanitation team members to ensure they can work properly to dispose of these complaints during the rainy season.
Besides this, the Dehradun district magistrate Sonika also directed the MCD officials to expedite the cleaning work of drains and sewers to prevent blockage and waterlogging. The sanitation workers carried out cleaning of drains in Rishi Nagar to Chuna Bhatta Bridge, Govind Garh to Durga Dairy, Bhandari Bagh to Indresh Bridge, Chandramani Shamshanghat Nala, Raksha Vihar to Chuna Bhatta, Banjarawala Azad Vihar, Dobalwala and Balliwala to Anurag Chowk among other locations.
The DM stated that the administration will not issue payments if the corporation does not carry out satisfactory work in cleaning drains and sewers.
