MCD sets up a panel to review objections to the development works list

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has formed a committee to examine objections raised over the list of development works approved in its board meeting, municipal commissioner Namami Bansal said.

The decision comes after complaints received from various councillors who alleged that the distribution of works across wards was uneven and that some special projects required scrutiny. Bansal said that the administration decided to re-evaluate the list after MCD councillors flagged concerns during internal discussions. “All objections have been taken seriously. A detailed review of the approved works is underway, and changes will be made wherever required,” she said.

MCD officials said the committee will review the projects from both technical and administrative angles to ensure that norms related to allocation, feasibility and public interest are followed. The administrative wing has also been directed to recheck the entire list to rule out errors and ensure transparency in the approval process. The issue had earlier led to a brief disruption in municipal functioning after employees suspended work due to differences linked to the disputed list. After talks with the administration, employees submitted a memorandum outlining their concerns. Following this, the committee was formally constituted to address the objections and restore smooth functioning. Bansal said that the situation has since stabilised and that civic operations are running normally. “All development works are continuing and there is no impact on day-to-day municipal services,” she said.

Bansal added that the review process is aimed at avoiding future disputes and ensuring fairness in civic planning. “Keeping public interest in mind, the corporation wants development works to move forward in a transparent and orderly manner,” Bansal said.
