MCD sets up camps to boost property tax collection

PNS | DEHRADUN

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) will set up property tax submission camps across 10 locations in the city to maximise tax collection. The first camp began on December 18 and will continue until December 30, allowing residents to pay their property tax through various payment modes, the Dehradun municipal tax superintendent Poonam Rawat said.

She stated that the initiative aims to make the tax submission process more accessible to locals. She informed that the first camp was held on Wednesday in the Sahastradhara Road area. “On December 19, 20 and 21, the camps will be organised in Indiranagar, Rajendra Nagar Street number 3 and Bhawani Balika school near Durga Temple in Ballupur respectively. On December 23, 24, 26, 27, 28 and 30, the camps will be organised in Kalumal Dharamshala, Race Course A Block, Suri Chowk, MCD office in Rajpur, Doon Trafalgar Society and Aryanagar Shiv Mandir respectively,” Rawat said.

Operators have also been deployed at each location to ensure efficient management and to assist taxpayers. She said that these camps are strategically placed in neighbourhoods with a higher number of tax defaulters to encourage compliance and maximise collections. Rawat also revealed that MCD has collected Rs 31 crore in property tax so far this year but it is working toward a target of Rs 70 crore.

She also said that there is a considerable increase in online property tax payments, particularly from non-residential property owners who contribute significantly. She said that there is a 25-30 per cent rise in online transactions this year which was only around 12 per cent in 2023, showcasing a growing preference for digital payments. She also informed that locals will also get a 20 per cent rebate in property tax submission but those with pending dues will face a 12 per cent penalty and are ineligible for the rebate. Rawat urged property owners to submit the tax either by visiting the camps or using the online submission system for convenience.
