The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) will take action against the officials and outgoing councillors allegedly involved in the scam in the registration of fake sanitation workers under Mohalla Swachhata Samiti. The corporation will also start the process of recovering the salary that was issued in the name of the fake 99 sanitation workers listed in the Swachhata Samiti, the Dehradun municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar said. The Dehradun district magistrate Sonika analysed the report of the alleged scam submitted by the chief development officer Jharna Kamthan last week after investigating the matter for about four months. According to Sonika, the report states that the team could not verify the details of 99 sanitation workers mentioned in the Mohalla Swachhata Samiti. However, a salary of Rs 15,000 has been issued for each sanitation worker since 2019. She said that she has asked the commissioner to act against those involved in the scam and take appropriate action to recover the money that was issued in the past five years as the salary of the fake 99 sanitation workers. Responding to this, Kumar informed that the corporation is yet to receive the written order from the DM but they are ready to act against guilty parties as soon as they receive the order. “We have the record of when, how and who approved those payments. We will check which bank account holders received those payments. We will act against every person involved in this scam. We will also aim for recovering the money and if needed, the corporation will take legal action if it does not get the money,” he said.
