MCD to act against property tax defaulters after April 12

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun
The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) will take strict action against those who have not paid their property tax, with notices to be issued after April 12. Assistant municipal commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh stated that dues will now be recovered along with interest. In the last financial year which ended on March 31, the corporation collected about Rs 72 crore in property tax.
Earlier, the corporation had offered a 20 per cent rebate for payments made by March 31, but many property owners did not avail of the benefit. With the rebate now over, defaulters will have to pay additional interest ranging from 12 per cent to 18 per cent. The move indicates that the MCD will intensify its recovery drive and those delaying payments may face financial penalties in the coming days.
