Thursday, 02 December 2021 | PNS | Dehradun

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) will resume its intensive drive against stray cattle from Thursday. The corporation is resuming the campaign in view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s planned visit to the city on December 4. In the past few months, the number of cattle roaming around the city have increased considerably causing issues like the spread of roadside garbage on main routes and road accidents.

Some councillors have also complained to the corporation about the increasing menace of the stray cattle. The senior municipal veterinary officer DC Tiwari informed that there are already about 1,400 cows in MCD’s animal shelters and it will resume picking maximum stray cattle on a daily basis from Thursday before the arrival of the PM. However, he added that the MCD will run the campaign till December 31. He also said that the MCD teams will pick stray animals including cows, bulls, swine, mules and horses and impose penalties on the owners.
