Two accused in ex-serviceman’s murder nabbed after encounter

Dehradun police had an encounter on Saturday night with criminals involved in the murder of retired brigadier Mukesh Joshi in the Rajpur area. During the operation, one of the accused Kavish Tyagi was injured in police firing while another accused Shantanu Tyagi was arrested. Earlier, the police had arrested seven accused in the case.

Dehradun senior superintendent of police Pramendra Singh Dobal said that the police had received information that the absconding accused were planning to flee from the Rajpur area, after which the police started a checking drive in the area. Two suspects tried to run away after seeing the police near Guniyalgaon. The police chased them and caught one accused on the spot. When the police tried to catch the second accused who reportedly opened fire at the team. In self-defense, the police fired back and the accused was shot in the leg. He was later taken to the hospital for treatment.

The police recovered a pistol and live cartridges from the spot. Dobal reached the scene and also visited the hospital to take details of the incident. This case is related to the firing incident that took place on March 30 in Johri village. During the incident, 74-year-old Joshi was shot while he was on a morning walk. He was taken to the hospital but died during treatment.

During the investigation, police found that the firing happened after a dispute between two groups over a bill at a bar. The next morning, the two groups were in a chase and during this, one the the groups allegedly fired which hit the ex-serviceman on a morning walk.
