MCD to undertake Rs 3 crore road repair work in 100 wards

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) is set to undertake road repair and patchwork across all wards from September, with works estimated at around Rs 3 crore. The civic body will focus on roads in various localities and colonies that have suffered damage during the monsoon.

The MCD executive engineer Rajit Kotiyal said that the corporation is currently identifying damaged roads and assessing the extent of damage across the wards. “The roads in localities and colonies under the municipal corporation often get damaged during the monsoon. We are currently identifying the stretches that need repair and assessing the damage,” he said.

He said that the repair work would be taken up on a priority basis after the assessment is completed. The corporation will accordingly decide which roads require immediate patchwork or repair and take up the works in phases.

According to the MCD, the estimated Rs 3 crore allocation will cover road repair and patchwork works across all wards. The exercise is expected to address potholes and other monsoon-related damage on municipal roads before the condition deteriorates further in the coming months.

The civic body has traditionally taken up such repair works after the monsoon, when the extent of damage to roads becomes clearer. This year too, officials are conducting a ward-wise assessment before finalising the stretches to be repaired.
