Considering the frequent encroachments, garbage accumulation and other sanitation related issues near the ghats, the Haridwar municipal commissioner Varun Chaudhary has directed the officials concerned to install CCTV cameras there for surveillance. He stated this after the recent inspections of some ghats in Har Ki Paidi, Malviya Ghat, Subhash Ghat, Alaknanda Ghat and other ghats of nearby areas. The officials said that the corporation consistently takes action against the encroachments on ghats which also leads to sanitation related issues, especially during tourist season. Considering this, the commissioner directed the officials concerned to impose hefty penalties on the people responsible for encroachments and take necessary action against them. Besides this, he also directed them to identify spots to install CCTV cameras on ghats to ensure proper surveillance of ghats and to take appropriate actions against offenders accordingly. Besides this, Chaudhary has also directed those organisations who have adopted the ghats to work on the sanitation conditions and associated issues there. He also inspected some public toilets in the city and directed the officials to ensure that all toilets are clean, especially those built near the ghats. The commissioner will soon review all the arrangements again, the officials said.
