The Municipal Corporation of Haridwar (MCH) will send notices to those taxpayers from April who would fail to submit the taxes by the end of this month. The municipal commissioner of Haridwar Dayanand Saraswati said that the Covid-19 pandemic has certainly affected the tax collection but they are consistently appealing the locals to pay their residential as well as non-residential property tax in the given time to avoid penalties. He said that local residents are regularly depositing electricity and water bills which is generated mostly in every second month but expect the corporation to waive off the  property tax which is deposited only once a year which is unfair. It is one of the main source of revenue generation which is required by MCH to carry out development works across the city, said Saraswati. He said that the corporation had set the target of collecting Rs eight crore from 60 wards but has collected only about Rs four crore so far. “We have been consistently appealing people to deposit the taxes by March 30. The corporation will prepare a list and commence sending notices from April to those who failed to deposit taxes this financial year,” added the commissioner.
