The Municipal Corporation of Rishikesh (MCR) has stepped up preparations to prevent waterlogging and overflowing drains ahead of monsoon. The Rishikesh municipal commissioner Shailendra Negi also inspected locations including Ganganagar, Hanumantpur, Someshwar Nagar and others to check the ongoing work done by sanitation teams. He also directed the officials to take action against construction materials lying on roads that can potentially block drains. He also instructed to ensure no encroachment in front of shops that obstruct drain cleaning causing overflowing during rain. Besides this, the sanitation team has also been cleaning ghats regularly. The commissioner said that the MCR has also installed separate dustbins for the disposal of dry and wet waste at various ghats to ensure people do not dump garbage in the open. He said that the MCR is cleaning small and big drains regularly and will ensure they stay clean to minimise waterlogging risk during heavy rainfall.
