Dehradun is set to see major development push after Rs 968 crore was approved for the financial year 2026–27 at the 113th board meeting of the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) on Monday. The Garhwal commissioner and MDDA chairman Vinay Shankar Pandey said that this budget will be used to improve infrastructure, public facilities and the overall look of the city. Around 48 proposals related to development and public welfare were also discussed and approved during the meeting.

The authority has given approval to several projects, including eco-resorts, hotels, commercial buildings and residential plans. These projects are expected to boost tourism, create jobs, and improve the local economy, Pandey said. Along with development, special focus has been given to environmental protection, he added.

“With rising temperatures and environmental pressure, maintaining ecological balance has become a priority. The authority has directed large-scale implementation of tree plantation, water conservation, and development of new parks. Special focus will be given to increasing greenery, protecting water sources and improving public spaces to reduce temperature and provide a clean and healthy environment,” he said.

The vice chairman Banshidhar Tiwari said that MDDA is continuously prioritizing public welfare. He stated that the approved proposals will not only support physical development but also create new opportunities for employment and investment. He emphasised balanced development with a focus on environmental protection and modern facilities.
