Mercury fluctuation: Viral infections  surge among children

With the changing weather and fluctuating mercury over the past fortnight in Nainital negatively impacting children’s health, around 35 to 40 children are being brought to B D Pandey District Hospital daily for treatment. The hospital sources said that the children are increasingly falling prey to viral infections.

Explaining the sudden spurt in viral cases involving children, the hospital’s paediatrician,   Dr Ravindra Mer said that the sudden change in weather is affecting children’s immunity, leading to a rapid increase in problems like colds, coughs, fevers, throat infections, vomiting and diarrhoea. He advised parents to ensure that chidden do not eat cold food and are dressed appropriately. Besides, he stressed on maintaining hygiene.  Without timely treatment, viral infections could become serious,  he warned.
