In response to the demands and special needs of individuals with disabilities, a modern indoor badminton hall is currently under construction in the Rishikesh area, specifically designed for their use. This initiative has been undertaken by the district administration under the direction of district magistrate Savin Basnal, aiming to expand sports facilities for the disabled and promote their empowerment in Dehradun district.
DM stated that the land for the indoor badminton hall has been selected specifically for the use of disabled athletes. This facility will provide exceptional opportunities for talented athletes with disabilities to showcase their skills, helping to uncover hidden talents and enabling them to represent the country and State at state, national and international levels. The aim is to allow individuals (differently abled) who have significant potential but have been hindered by a lack of resources to shine on larger platforms.
He informed that for this an amount of Rs 25.41 lakh has already been approved and released for this ambitious project under the District Mineral Foundation (DMF) on an urgent need basis. This amount has been provided to the Municipal Corporation of Rishikesh and the construction has commenced. As per the revised estimate submitted by the Municipal Corporation, the total cost of the project is now estimated at Rs 62.67 lakh. DM has approved an additional amount of Rs 37.26 lakh as requested by the Municipal Commissioner of Rishikesh.
Bansal emphasised that developing basic facilities for disabled individuals is a priority for the administration. This indoor badminton hall will not only promote their physical development and health but also help integrate them into mainstream society. The district administration is committed to ensuring that the project is completed on time and to a high standard so that the disabled community can benefit from this facility as soon as possible.
