Operation Prahaar going at full throttle with raids, arrests, challans

Under “Operation Prahaar”-launched by Uttarakhand police in Doon on April 1 in the aftermath of the Rajpur incident resulting in murder of a retired brigadier- continues with raids till late night at the hideouts of criminals and drug/liquor traffickers along with campaigns against drunk driving and other forms of law violation. So far 14 suspects have been detained; over 900 people questioned for roaming about in late night hours and 99 people penalised. Besides, 21 have been arrested for drunk driving, seven for creating ruckus in public places and three for drug/liquor trafficking.
Police said that these campaigns are being carried out under the guidance of the SP City and SP Rural, adding that a total of 109 drivers have been penalised with a sum of Rs 72, 500 for violating traffic rules under the MV Act. This aside, 48 vehicles have been impounded for violating traffic rules and four for overloading.
During checking of PG/hostel/tenants, nine owners who did not get the students/tenants verified were penalised with a fine of Rs 90, 000.
Notably, the senior superintendent of police, Dehradun, had directed intensive checking campaigns in their respective areas and take effective action against the accused involved in criminal activities.
Police further said that in this sequence, on the intervening night of Thursday and Friday, different police teams under the SP, City and SP, Rishikesh conducted surprise raids at several places. Some of these arrests were made from Premnagar and Doiwala areas of Dehradun, police said, adding that the operation would continue at full throttle in the coming days.
