The zebrafish and fruit fly research laboratory was inaugurated at the Patanjali Research Institute here on Wednesday. This zebrafish and drosophila laboratory is a significant achievement in the field of modern biomedical research, which will provide a new direction for the scientific evaluation of medicinal plants and Ayurvedic medicines. Due to their genetic similarity to humans, zebrafish and drosophila have emerged as powerful model organisms in biomedical research. The transparent structure and rapid reproduction capacity of zebrafish in the early developmental stages and the short life cycle of drosophila flies make these organisms extremely useful for research on disease mechanisms, toxicology and drug discovery.
Speaking on the occasion, Acharya Balkrishna said that there is a treasure of knowledge in the ancient Ayurvedic tradition which needs to be validated through modern scientific methods. He said that Patanjali is working to restore the traditions of the ancient sages, Vedic consciousness, energy and present them to the world with evidence through modern research techniques.
He further stated that the Patanjali Research Institute has conducted numerous scientific studies over the past few years that have proven that Ayurvedic medicines are not only effective but also safe. This new laboratory will provide Patanjali scientists with the opportunity to conduct in-depth studies of the effects of Ayurvedic medicines on various complex diseases such as metabolic diseases, neurological diseases, inflammation-related problems and cancer, he added.
