Rear admiral Rana appointed chairman of EAC for Nuclear, Defence & Strategic projects

The Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change has appointed rear admiral ( retd) OPS Rana as the chairperson of Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) for Nuclear, Defence and other Strategic projects. The ministry appointed Rana following the reconstitution of the EAC.
The committee examines and scrutinises the proposals of nuclear power plants, nuclear fuel complexes, defence and other strategic projects for prescribing terms of reference (ToR) for undertaking detailed environment impact assessment studies. It is mandated to suggest safeguards to mitigate the adverse environmental impact and also pollution control devices including choice of appropriate technology for projects recommended for approval. The committee will also ensure through appropriate monitoring mechanisms that environmental safeguards proposed are effectively implemented.
A decorated soldier, Rana served as the general manager and head of BrahMos Aerospace, Pilani to set up the state of the art BrahMos missile production facility in the country. He is also a member of the EAC on Industry under the MoEFCC.
