Monsoon leaves roads riddled with potholes, 27 complaints reach CM portal

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

Dehradun’s roads have been left riddled with potholes following repeated monsoon showers, making commuting difficult and increasing the risk of accidents, particularly for two-wheeler riders. The Public Works Department (PWD) has received 27 complaints about potholes through the chief minister’s portal in August. Of these, 10 have been resolved, while repair work on the remaining 17 complaints is underway, PWD assistant engineer Govind Singh Koundal said.

Koundal said that two fresh complaints regarding potholes were received through the portal on Monday morning. He added that the department was working to address the pending complaints and repair the affected stretches. Repeated rainfall has worsened the condition of several roads, with water accumulation and continuous traffic further damaging already vulnerable stretches. Potholes have also expanded at several locations, forcing motorists to slow down or manoeuvre around them.

The problem is particularly risky for two-wheeler riders, as potholes filled with rainwater can be difficult to spot. Sudden attempts to avoid them can also increase the risk of collisions on busy roads. Residents have been using the CM portal to report damaged stretches, with the complaints prompting the PWD to take up repairs. Koundal said that work on the remaining complaints would continue as the department monitors road conditions during the ongoing monsoon. With rainfall expected to continue, further damage to roads remains a concern, particularly on stretches where poor drainage leads to prolonged water accumulation.
