More than Rs 350 Crores of RTE dues pending
The Principals Progressive Schools’ Association (PPSA) has approached the Uttarakhand Government to pay the RTE dues of over Rs 350 crores to the private schools of the State. According to the president of the association, Prem Kashyap, the government has not paid the dues under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (RTE) Act for over two years. He said that the High Court has directed the State Government to pay the RTE dues with interest in case of delay payments but the government failed to do so even after repeated reminders.
However, Kashyap stated that the association has recently written to the Education department and the chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat to pay all the dues with interest since the year 2018 as per the High Court orders. According to the association, more 80 private schools are in the verge of being shut down in the State due to financial restraints during Covid-19 pandemic and it would be the best time to pay the dues of all the schools when they need it the most.
