The mortal remains of the Agniveer, Rohit Singh Rawat (21), who hailed from Ghansali region of Tehri district, arrived in his ancestral village, Mendu Senduwal on Friday. He had died while on duty in the restive Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. A large number of villagers and those from neighbouring areas gathered and paid their last respects to the deceased youth.
The family members were inconsolable, while the villagers bid him a tearful farewell. The area where his last rites were performed resonated with chants of
‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’.
Aside from the family members, neighbours and villagers from nearby areas, public representatives, administrative officials and army personnel were present. The locals said in emotion-choked voice that Uttarakhand would never cease to deliver such valour- charged children who would sacrifice their lives at the altar of the country’s unity and integrity.
