The scientists of G B Pant University of Agriculture and Technology have submitted 30 projects worth over Rs 100 crore under the Anushasan National Research Foundation (ANRF) of the Government of India. These include projects related to agriculture, veterinary medicine, science and humanities, technology and community science and fisheries. Most of these projects are multidisciplinary and multi-institutional, with scientists from various disciplines collaborating to work on untouched areas of science. The scientists, who are working for the university, looked happy and affirmed that they would go all-out to transform it into a research-focused institution of higher learning.
Notably, to encourage high-level research, the Centre has established the ANRF, chaired by the Prime Minister, under which an investment of Rs 50,000 crore is planned for high-level research in the country by 2028.
Speaking of the development, the vice- chancellor of the university, Shivendra Kumar Kashyap stated that the submission of 30 ANRF projects exemplifies the scientific acumen and drive of the scientists. “Our goal is to ensure that our research aligns with the needs of farmers and industries and that each scientist receives two to three research projects,” he said, adding that a planning team has been formed to identify potential projects for scientists across the university and to explore new possibilities by contacting funding agencies and industries.
Importantly, the Department of Science and Technology under the Government of India has drawn up a Technology Enabling Centre Scheme (DST-TEC), which will work towards the commercialisation of technology.
“This project has offered a major opportunity for the university,” the VC stated.
