For the first time, the Muslim community people, living in the vicinity of the Badrinath shrine, will not celebrate Eid-ul-Adha, popularly known as Bakrid this year. Notably, about 800 to 1,000 Muslims live in close proximity to the Badrinath shrine area who are currently working as labourers and contractors for an ongoing construction project of the government.
Asked why they have taken such a decision, the people belonging to the minority community said that this is dome to respect the sentiment of the Hindus and their religious fraternity.
Speaking on this matter, the senior sub-inspector Lakshmi Biljawan said that the decision had been taken following a meeting attended by the representatives of both the communities held in the Badrinath police station on Tuesday.
The president of Badrish Panda Panchayat Praveen Dhyani said that the Muslims should not offer Namaaz in Badrinath Dham because it is not imperative for them to do it as per their religious tradition. He said that they had talked to the people of the Muslim community and appealed to them not to offer Namaaz on the occasion of Eid and they readily agreed to celebrate Eid outside the Dham, respecting the religious sentiments of Hindus and the sanctity of the revered shrine.
