PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Dehradun
The Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) administration has decided to set up a Neuro Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in the hospital. The new facility will provide advanced and dedicated treatment facilities for seriously ill neurological patients. This decision was made during a recent review meeting of the superspeciality departments chaired by principal of GDMC Hospital Dr Geeta Jain.
According to officials, it was decided that the addition of a Cath lab will enable the treatment of complex diseases related to brain vessels at the GDMC. This new facility will allow neurosurgeons to effectively treat strokes, aneurysms and other vascular diseases using endovascular techniques.
During the meeting, it was revealed that some departments lacked consistent monitoring, regular review of essential tests (such as ECGs) and needed improved coordination between various departments. The GDMC principal emphasised the need for continuous monitoring of all serious patients. She issued strict instructions stating that timely reviews and proper documentation of necessary tests should be mandatory. Additionally, better coordination between concerned departments is essential.
Further, the principal informed that the officials concerned also directed that necessary equipment, trained human resources and technical support should be made available soon to initiate these facilities as quickly as possible.
