NMC approves MS Ophthalmology course in GDMC

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has sanctioned three seats of Master of Surgery (MS) Ophthalmology in the department of ophthalmology Government Doon Medical College (GDMC).
On the application of the college, a team of the NMC inspected the facilities at the department of ophthalmology of the GDMC and associated hospital last month. Based on this, the Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB), post graduate section of NMC has given its approval for three seats of MS in Ophthalmology to the hospital.
After this approval the college would have 37 seats in its PG courses. The college has also applied to NMC for its approval to start PG courses in Medicine, orthopaedics and TB and chest. The NMC teams have already visited the medical college and hospital for recognition of PG classes in the Medicine, orthopaedics and TB and Chest departments.
The Principal of the GDMC Dr Ashutosh Sayana said that the college was set up seven years ago and it started with 150 seats in the MBBS course. He said that the PG classes started in the college in the clinical subjects in the year 2020 and at present college has 31 seats of PG. The Principal exuded confidence that recognition to start PG classes in non clinical subjects would be given by the NMC. He said that the facilities and infrastructure are continuously increasing in the GDMC and with increase in PG seats the number of specialist doctors in the state would increase.
