No need to be scared of Covid-19: Health secretary

108 new cases reported on Tuesday, total active cases at 197

Amid increasing cases of Covid-19 in the State, the Health secretary R Rajesh Kumar has said that there is no need to get scared of the disease, adding that Covid-19 should be defeated. The secretary said this while taking stock of the Covid management at the Government Doon Medical College (GDMC) hospital on the second day of the mock drill on Tuesday. Meanwhile, according to the Health department 108 positive cases of Covid-19 were reported in the State on Tuesday while 56 patients recovered from the infection. There are a total of 197 active cases in the State with Dehradun district having the highest 87 active cases among the districts.

Kumar inspected the oxygen plant, intensive care unit (ICU), ventilators and beds of the hospital. He said that most of the active patients of Covid-19 in the State are having normal symptoms and are in home isolation. Only a few patients need to be hospitalised. Kumar appealed that the general public should follow the Covid appropriate behaviour. In his visit the secretary directed the doctors that there should not be any laxity in the treatment of the patients. He reiterated that people should not fear from the current situation of Covid-19. Kumar however added that people suffering from serious ailments and elderly people should be more cautious. He claimed that the health department is fully geared up to tackle the Covid-19 and meet any situation of emergency.

 The director of the Medical Education department and principal of GDMC Dr Ashutosh Sayana, additional project director of Uttarakhand State AIDS Control Society Dr Ajay Nagarkar, project officer of National Health Mission (NHM) Dr Pankaj Kumar and others were present on the occasion.
