On fast track to make Uttarakhand drugs-free: CM

Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has said that the State government is on the fast track to fulfill its commitment to a drug- free Uttarakhand. He was virtually addressing the regional coference on drug trafficking and national security presided over by Home minister Amit Shah on Saturday.
Dhami said that drug trafficking and national security are closely linked. He said that with the youth coming in the grip of drugs, both national security and social fabric get threatened. The CM said that efforts at institutional, enforcement and awareness levels are being undertaken in the State to prevent youth from falling prey to substance abuse. He averred that strict action is being taken on those involved in illegal business of drugs. The anti-narcotics task force is engaged in enforcement activities against drug trafficking and legal action under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act is being taken against the culprits. Dhami added that rehabilitation centres have been set up in the districts to bring the addicts back into the mainstream of the society.
He said that special awareness campaigns against substance abuse are being undertaken in the State with the help of Mahila Mangal Dal and Yuva Mangal Dal. Counsellors have been appointed in the schools and jails and the State government has also issued a toll-free helpline number for the purpose.
The CM informed that 2,183 awareness rallies, 1,050 seminars, 75 street plays and 10 marathons were organised in the State in the year 2024. He said that efforts for making a drugs-free Uttarakhand are being undertaken the levels of government, departments and institutions.
