A man died and another sustained injuries after the utility vehicle they were travelling in fell into a 100 metre gorge near Tota Ghati in Tehri district in the wee hours of Sunday. Officials said that the police called the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team to the spot after being informed about the accident. It was difficult for the rescue team to descend into the deep gorge in the dark to rescue the victims. The SDRF personnel managed to extricate one of the victims from the vehicle and provided him first aid. He was later sent to the hospital to get proper treatment. The other victim had died at the spot and his body was handed over to the police after being retrieved from the gorge. The injured victim has been identified as Dev Singh Chaudhary (34) and the deceased as Dinesh Singh Chaudhary (40). Both belong to the same family and live in Dehradun’s Vikasnagar. On the question of the cause of the accident, the officials said that it appears in the preliminary analysis that the driver probably lost control of the vehicle in the dark due to which it fell into the deep gorge. The police have informed the victims’ kin about the accident and are investigating the matter, the officials added.
