Chief spokesperson of Uttarakhand Congress, Garima Dasauni has demanded that a high level inquiry should be held in the case involving construction of a Mall and a residential complex in close vicinity of the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun. She said that the IMA officials have written letters to the State administration and the MDDA in which they have pointed out that the proposed mall and residential complex, very close to the IMA in the Panditwadi area, are a blatant violation of safety standards. She said that the guidelines of the ministry of Defence clearly mention that the permission from the local military authority is mandatory for any construction within a radius of 100 to 500 meters. But in this case, the project was approved without a NOC, she said.
Dasauni said that in its letter, the IMA has clearly stated that this construction is not only against regulations but also poses a serious threat to the security of sensitive military installations.” Surprisingly, despite repeated objections, the IMA has received neither a satisfactory response nor has any concrete action been taken against the responsible officials,’’ she said.
The Congress leader said that it is interesting to note that the State BJP government has maintained a stoic silence on such an important issue. “ This is the same BJP which fabricated a false story that a residential society in the Dhaulas area located about 15 kilometres away from the IMA is the proposed Muslim University and when today a real security threat is looming right next to IMA, the same BJP government is keeping mum,’’ she said.
Dasauni demanded that an impartial and high-level investigation be conducted into this entire matter and all permissions for the construction given without NOC should be immediately cancelled.
