Orange warning- heavy rain, extremely intense spells likely in six districts

The authorities have ordered that all government and private schools along with Anganwadi centres will remain closed in Dehradun on Monday considering the orange warning issued for Dehradun and other districts for today.

The State Meteorological Centre has issued an orange warning (bre prepared to take action) regarding the possibility of heavy rain likely to occur at a few places with very heavy rain at isolated places in Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital, Champawat and Udham Singh Nagar districts today. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning/very intense to extremely intense spells of rain/gusty winds (40-50 kmph) are also likely to occur at a few places in Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Nainital, Champawat and Udham Singh Nagar districts.

The centre has also issued a yellow alert (be aware) regarding the possibility of heavy rain likely to occur at isolated places in remaining districts of the State. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning/intense to very intense spells of rain/gusty wind (30-40 kmph) are likely to occur at isolated places in the remaining districts of the State. Apart from this, moderate rain/thunderstorms are likely to occur at most places in Dehradun, Tehri, Pauri, Haridwar, Nainital, Champawat and Udham Singh Nagar districts on Monday. Light to moderate rain/thunderstorms are likely to occur at most places in the remaining districts of the State.

The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a partly to generally cloudy sky. Heavy to very heavy rain/thunderstorms accompanied with lightning and gusty winds (40-50 kmph) are likely to occur here with the maximum and minimum temperatures likely to be about 29 degrees Celsius and 23 degrees Celsius respectively today.

Meanwhile, there was no major rainfall activity or shift in temperatures in the State on Sunday. It will be recalled that vigorous rainfall is forecast in the State during a three-day stretch from July 20 to 22.
