Considering the ensuing assembly elections, a total of 15,940 people with disabilities (PWDs) and senior citizens above 80 years have cast their vote through postal ballot while sitting at their homes across the state. Due to the heterogeneous geographical location in the state, there are many polling booths where the polling parties have to travel on foot to reach the polling booth. There are about 262 polling booths in various districts for which, the polling parties have to walk about five kilometres. There are 33 booths for which the party has to cover 10 kilometres and more amid the uncertain weather conditions to reach the destination.
Keeping in view the difficult geographical conditions and uncertain weather conditions, 35 polling parties were dispatched three days and 1,442 polling parties were dispatched two days before the polling date which is scheduled to be held on February 14. Out of these, polling parties of Badrinath and Dharchula constituencies will have to cover maximum distance on foot which is 20 kilometres and 18 kilometres respectively to reach the polling booth to ensure smooth conduct of elections on Monday.
