Over 400 encroachments on the banks of Rispana River that were established after 2016 are on the Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) land. Besides this, 12 encroachments were found in the land of Mussoorie Nagar Palika. These revelations were made in the ongoing survey of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) which is being carried out to remove encroachments on the river bed of the Rispana and Bindal rivers in Dehradun on the orders of the National Green Tribunal (NGT). A senior municipal official said that the corporation formed five joint teams, including officials from various departments concerned that identified about 129 slums with around 550 encroachments in the first phase of the survey. After collecting data and verifying it, the MCD found that out of these encroachments, over 400 structures were formed on MDDA’s land after 2016 and 12 on Mussoorie Nagar Palika, the senior official claimed. According to him, the corporation has contacted both bodies regarding the issue to take further action accordingly. Besides this, the MCD will send the notice to owners of about 100 structures who encroached upon the corporation’s land near the river on Thursday. Talking about the ongoing campaign, the Dehradun municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar said, “The corporation will send notices against the encroachments on MCD’s land. The owners will be given seven days to present any objection regarding the encroachment and will be asked to remove it. If they fail to do so, MCD will act further as per the court’s order.”
