Patients & attendees bothered by increased congestion at district hospital

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun
Numerous patients and their attendees have voiced concerns regarding the heightened congestion caused by ongoing construction works, particularly the multi-level parking project at Deen Dayal Upadhyay district hospital. The Pioneer had recently reported that the various construction works at the district hospital have created significant challenges for patients, affecting their health and increasing their susceptibility to allergies. Additionally, the impact of construction works extends beyond health concerns and includes increased congestion around the hospital. Patients have reported that the construction, especially of the multi-level parking, has taken up spaces that were once available for parking, resulting in further congestion in the hospital due to the limited space.
A patient Yogendra Panwar shared that he recently went to the district hospital with his brother for treatment. He expressed frustration over the time wasted just looking for a parking space. Due to the ongoing multi-level parking construction, the designated parking area has been relocated, leading to increased vehicular congestion at the hospital. Consequently, he opted to park outside the hospital. He said that he hopes the multi-level parking and other construction efforts will eventually ease parking difficulties.
An attendee Megha Chandan, who visited the hospital to accompany her mother for a routine check-up, voiced her concerns about the congestion at the hospital. She said that the limited parking space is already a challenge and the ongoing construction work is exacerbating the situation for patients and their companions. She recalled that before the construction, some vehicles were able to park in areas that are now impacted by the multi-level parking project.
Due to construction of the multi-level parking facility, attendees and patients are required to park their vehicles outside or in alternative locations at the hospital. She emphasised that the authorities should propose temporary parking solutions to alleviate congestion, particularly for patients who visit the hospital’s emergency department.
Many other patients and attendees have voiced similar concerns.
The medical superintendent of the hospital Dr VS Chauhan, stated that the hospital administration is also observing challenges that are being faced by the patients related to parking. Congestion has increased as a result of the ongoing multi-level parking construction work, which has forced patients and visitors to find parking outside the hospital. However, the establishment of the multi-level parking structure is essential for permanently resolving these parking issues. It is anticipated that the construction will be completed within two months, effectively addressing the problem.
