The Women Empowerment and Child Development (WECD) minister Rekha Arya said that the Mukhyamantri Ekal Mahila Swarjogar Yojana (MEMSY) has been approved in the cabinet meeting held here on Monday. Arya congratulated the women of the state for this approval.

She stated that this scheme will benefit unmarried, abandoned, divorced, destitute and disabled single women in the state. Eligible participants will receive a maximum assistance of Rs 2,00000, with 75 per cent of this amount provided as a subsidy or grant. Beneficiaries will only need to invest 25 per cent of their own funds into the business.  Following the cabinet’s approval, the Government Order (GO) will be issued as soon as possible.

Arya said that the goal is to assist at least 2,000 women under this scheme in the first year. Based on the programme’s progress, a decision will be made to potentially increase the number of beneficiaries in the future.  While many initiatives to empower women already exist in the state, there has not been a specific assistance scheme aimed at single women until now. Arya emphasised the importance of empowering this demographic and stated that a special scheme has been developed to address their needs.
