PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Haridwar

The strict stance taken by the Haridwar district magistrate Mayur Dixit on the dug-up and damaged roads and lanes in Haridwar city due to a KfW-funded sewerage project has started showing results on the ground. The Peyjal Nigam swung into action and a stretch of over 14 kilometres has been repaired in two months. Besides, road repair work is underway in several areas of Haridwar city, including Jagjitpur, Sitapur, Haripur Kala and the old industrial area.

Notably, the people in Haridwar city and surrounding areas had been facing huge inconveniences due to the prolonged work under the project. Roads were just not dug up and left unrepaired, but dust, mud, potholes and traffic jams worsened the residents’ problems.

Taking a serious note of the road- mess, the DM had directed   Peyjal Nigam officials to immediately repair and reconstruct roads where the sewerage line work had been completed.  Following this, the department sat up and the project manager of Construction and Maintenance Unit (Ganga), Meenakshi Mittal instructed the officials concerned to expedite the road repair work.

Locals said that such problems might recur and the administration, particularly the DM, must intervene effectively.
