Plains swelter while mountains enjoy some relief

The period generally associated with spring is already witnessing the heat usually witnessed a few days before the peak of summer. The temperatures in the plains remained above 35 degrees Celsius in Dehradun in various other regions while many of the mountainous regions also witnessed aboved normal maximum temperatures. The State Meteorological Centre stated on Tuesday that during the past 24 hours, the maximum temperatures remained normal to above normal in plains and the mountainous regions of the State. No significant change likely to occur in the maximum temperature during the next four to five days in the State.

However, very light to light rain/thunderstorms/snowfall (at altitudes of 4,000 metres and above) are likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts on Wednesday. Apart from this, dry weather is likely to prevail in the remaining districts of the State today.

The provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a mainly clear sky. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 36 degrees Celsius and 20 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today.

The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded in various parts of the State on Tuesday were 36 degrees Celsius and 19.7n degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 37.5 degrees Celsius and 15 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 25.3 degrees Celsius and 11.3 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 26.4 degrees Celsius and 12.8 degrees Celsius in New Tehri.
