Police arrest accused in alleged gang rape of minor in Ramnagar

Police in Nainital district’s Ramnagar arrested one man in an alleged gang rape case involving a minor student. The police booked the accused Anees (25) based on a complaint from the victim’s mother. The incident came to light after a video recently surfaced showing the assault. The officials informed that the victim, a minor residing in a rural area of Ramnagar, stated that the accused gave her a food item laced with a substance a few days ago. After the girl became unconscious, multiple men allegedly raped her in turn and recorded the assault on video. The officials informed that the police registered a case against the accused under the POCSO Act and Section 64 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and police operations are ongoing to locate and apprehend the remaining men involved. The police are conducting a medical examination of the victim and collecting digital evidence related to the case, they added. Besides this, former BJP city president Madan Joshi addressed the media about the incident on Wednesday. He claimed that he informed high-ranking police and administration officials immediately after learning of the case. Joshi demanded swift action against all accused. He warned that if the police do not arrest the remaining accused by Friday, he will lead a massive protest. Joshi stated that Ramnagar is a peaceful and calm place and its environment must not be disrupted.
