Police arrested four absconding accused on charges of murdering one man and shooting another in Dumat village of Dehradun’s Vikasnagar. One had died at the spot and the other sustained injury, said the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh. He said that the police received a complaint from Nirmal Singh Tomar via phone on Saturday that his father Baghel Singh and another person Atul were shot by some people near their house. The police reached the spot after getting the information and found that one man had died at the spot. The locals informed them that some persons arrived there in a car who were arguing with a woman, the deceased’s neighbour, over the ownership of the land. When villagers heard the noise, Baghel Singh along with other villagers reached the spot.

On seeing themselves surrounded by the villagers, the accused reportedly got scared and started to open fire in which Baghel Singh died and Atul sustained injuries. Singh said that when the villagers tried to catch them, the accused left their car at the spot, ran from there and snatched a person’s scooter to flee from the spot. He said, “We formed teams to nab the culprits. They checked footage of CCTV cameras installed around the site of the incident. More information was gathered about the accused via manual policing too. Intense checking was conducted in all police station areas to ensure they did not get out of the district.

The police finally nabbed the two accused Rahul and Rohit from the Raipur area late on Saturday night. The two other accused Shubham (24) and Puneet (28) were arrested from the IT Park area on Sunday morning. Both belong to Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut. The police also recovered the pistol used in the incident. Another accused Nitu is still absconding and will be nabbed soon.”
