Police arrest Uttarkashi resident for multi crore land fraud

Police arrested Uttarkashi resident Ramnaresh Nautiyal for allegedly duping multiple people of crores of rupees by preparing fake land documents and selling land belonging to others in the past several years.
The officials said that Nautiyal had been absconding for six months and was hiding in Purola, Uttarkashi, before being caught on Wednesday. They informed that a case was registered against him at Premnagar police station in Dehradun on March 3, 2025, based on complaints filed by Anuradha Bijlwan of Chinyalisaur and Santosh Gairola of Hudoli, Uttarkashi.
During the investigation, police found that Nautiyal had carried out fraud worth Rs 60 lakh by showing forged papers and registering land in the names of these complainants and their relatives. They said that the police added sections 467, 468 and 471 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) to the case after collecting crucial evidence.
An investigation revealed that 11 cases of land fraud had been registered against Nautiyal at Premnagar police station in different years. He is named in 11 cases under sections including 420, 406, 467, 468, 471, 504, 506 and 120B of the IPC between 2020 and 2024.
The officials said that acting on information from informers and surveillance, a police team arrested Nautiyal from Netri village under Purola police station in Uttarkashi. He was produced before the court and sent to judicial custody in Dehradun district jail on Thursday.
