Dehradun police conducted surprise checks at paying guest accommodations and hostels in Premnagar and Patelnagar late on Saturday to identify students involved in disturbances or criminal activities, officials said. Hostel and PG operators were also told to set 10 PM as the entry deadline for students, police said.
The superintendent of police (City) Pramod Kumar led the checking drive and collected details of students staying in the hostels and PGs. “Operators were directed to ensure 100 per cent police verification of students and install CCTV cameras on their premises,” Kumar said.
He said that operators were instructed to verify outsiders before allowing them inside and maintain records of all people entering and leaving the premises. Police warned that both students and hostel operators could face legal action if students were found unnecessarily roaming at night, involved in criminal activities or using drugs on the premises.
Kumar said that seven hostel operators were issued notices, while one operator was challaned under Section 83 of the Police Act.
