The police conducted verification of 1,301 public transport vehicles, including auto rickshaws, e-rickshaws and Vikrams in Dehradun in a two-day special drive that concluded on Tuesday. The police also collected a penalty worth over Rs 1.51 lakh from offenders during the drive. In a bid to streamline the city’s traffic, the Dehradun police intensified its crackdown on auto-rickshaws, e-rickshaws, and Vikram vehicles operating without proper permits or in violation of traffic regulations.

A two-day special verification drive was initiated by all police station in-charges to thoroughly inspect these vehicles as per the order of Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh. During the inspection, the police seized 24 vehicles for not having the required permits or for violating traffic norms. Besides this, the police imposed fines on 42 vehicles, leading to court challans, while 303 others were fined under the Motor Vehicles Act. The police collected over Rs 1.51 lakh in penalties from offenders during this two day drive.

The SSP said that this effort was part of a broader initiative to ensure safer roads and stricter adherence to traffic regulations in Dehradun. The police will continue to take firm action against those who continue to flout the rules, aiming to bring significant improvements to the city’s traffic management system, the SSP said.
