The police apprehended an individual with 300 kilogrammes of adulterated (synthetic) mawa, preventing its supply to Dehradun where the demand for such items has risen considerably in the run up to Deepawali. This arrest follows directions of the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh to curb the influx of adulterated food items from neighbouring States during the festive season. Singh stated that intensive checks for adulterated food items are being conducted across all police station areas in the district. The police searched a car in the wee hours on Monday. During the check, the police recovered about 300 kilogrammes of adulterated mawa in the trunk of the car. The Dehradun food safety officer was called to the spot to test the item. He further said that upon examination, the officer declared the recovered mawa to be synthetic. Samples were taken for further analysis and the remaining synthetic mawa was destroyed. During interrogation, the accused, Amit (36) from Muzaffarnagar, revealed that he had obtained the product from Muzaffarnagar and intended to supply it to various reputed shops and dairies in Dehradun city at inflated prices for the Deepawali celebrations. The police arrested the accused and registered a case against him under the relevant sections, the SSP added.
