Police crackdown amid Yatra: Man held with hashish

Uttarkashi police claimed to have achieved another major success in its intensive campaign against substance abuse and other illegal activities at a time when the annual Char Dham Yatra is gaining momentum. A joint team of Kotwali police and Special Operations Group (SOG) arrested a man with 794.50 grams of illegal hashish on Tuesday. The seized hashish is estimated to be worth approximately Rs 1.60 lakh, police informed. The accused has been identified as Vijay Singh (38), a resident of Siri Dhauntari under Dunda tehsil.
Sharing more details, a police officer said that the joint team led by the deputy superintendent of police Janak Singh Panwar, Kotwali Inspector in-charge and SOG in-charge cordoned off the area near Kuteti Devi temple, stopped a car, searched and seized the narcotics. The accused was arrested from the spot.
Based on the seizure, a case has been registered against the accused under several sections of NDPS Act.
Uttarkashi police further claimed that their campaign against drug abuse has achieved significant success so far in 2026. Twelve cases have been registered under the NDPS Act so far, and 16 drug traffickers have been arrested. Besides, police have recovered approximately 6.794 kgs of hashish and 18 grams of smack. Among those arrested for bootlegging, four have been charged under the stringent Gangster Act.
