Police nab Baba Tarsem Singh’s murder accused from Punjab

The police have arrested Sarabjit Singh, the main shooter in the Baba Tarsem Singh murder case, from Punjab. The police claimed that he was arrested on Tuesday and while bringing him back to Rudrapur in Udham Singh Nagar district late on Wednesday, the police vehicle overturned near Kashipur due to a tire burst. During this incident, Singh reportedly attempted to escape and in the exchange of fire that followed, he was shot in both legs and sustained injuries. The Udham Singh Nagar senior superintendent of police Manikant Mishra said that the police received a tip-off that Singh was hiding in Tarn Taran, Punjab. A police team led by Nanakmatta SHO Umesh Kumar went to Punjab and arrested him on Tuesday. The police team was bringing him back to Rudrapur on Wednesday but late at night near Kashipur, the police vehicle’s tire burst, causing it to overturn. During this, Singh allegedly grabbed a pistol from police personnel Sanjay Kumar and jumped out of the vehicle. He ran into nearby wheat fields and started firing at the police. One bullet hit police personnel Shubham Saini in the left hand, as per the SSP. He stated that in response, the police fired back, injuring Singh in both knees. He was taken to the government hospital in Kashipur for treatment. Several police officers, including Nanakmatta SHO and police personnel Dhanraj Shah, also sustained injuries due to the accident and are getting treatment, Mishra said. The head of Dera Kar Seva in Nanakmatta, Baba Tarsem Singh was shot dead by two bike- borne assailants on March 28, 2024. One of the assailants Amarjeet Singh alias Bittu was also killed by the police in Bhagwanpur, Haridwar on April 8, 2024. According to the police, he was allegedly the one who fired the shots that killed Baba Tarsem Singh. Sarabjit Singh had also been changing locations frequently since the murder. The police had announced a reward of Rs two lakh on his head. Mishra said that the police have arrested nine people in connection with the murder case so far and the investigation is ongoing.
